About Us
Richard Andrewski is an video producer and product developer. He became interested in fluorescent studio lighting after experiencing the discomforts of working in his small studio with regular tungsten studio lighting. When he looked into pro-level, ballast-driven stage lighting fixtures from manufacturers such as Mole Richardson, Videssence, KinoFlo, etc., he found them to be incredibly expensive. These companies have great interest in perpetuating the myth that they have some magical source of bulbs and other components that are superior to anything you or other manufacturers can actually find and use to build comparable lights!
Having a knowledge of electronics and electricity from previous lives, he knew this was not true and he proceeded to develop his own fixtures and later decided to document the experience in the Cool Lights Video. He then setup CoolLights.biz to market many items of interest to independent filmmakers and videographers including ready-made, "cool" and efficient studio lighting (based off of high lumen per watt technologies--our major first such product being fluorescent video lighting, with many others to follow), bulbs and accessories like light stands and grip equipment, hard-to-find DIY parts, Cool Lights Blog and Cool Lights Video Magazine (both an ongoing supplement to the Cool Lights video and other information related to video lighting), support forum and other items of interest for budget-conscious "indie" filmmakers, videographers and photographers. Richard now spends most of the year in China where he does much of the ongoing R&D and oversees the manufacturing process to insure the best quality level. Shipping to U.S. and Canadian customers takes place from stock in one of two warehouses in the USA. Shipping to many other parts of the world will be from China directly.
With the arrival of Cool Lights, those wanting affordable, cool studio lighting will not have to go to the great lengths that Richard did to research, design, find parts, custom make sheet metal boxes, etc. in their quest for a reasonable alternative to tungsten lighting!
