The main thing a halogen worklight lacks to become a better video light is barndoors to help control where its light spills. Our Cool Lights CL-BD4 Halogen Worklight Barndoor Kit solves this problem and makes your inexpensive worklight not only more usable, but professional looking too!
When I made my first halogen worklight to fluorescent video light conversion (as shown in the Cool Lights Video), it took me between 1-1/2 to 2 hours just to fashion and attach the barndoors using my method. Later, when I was designing this kit, I refined the process and got it down to 20 minutes. This alone makes it well worth the small price we charge.
The kit includes 4 hinges, 4 barndoors (all professionally powder-coated mat black for the toughest, scratch resistent finish possible) and directions for assembly available from downloads section. Also includes 12 1/8" rivets, 4 machine screws, 4 metal washers, 4 locking nuts and 4 compression springs--you supply a rivet gun and the other necessary tools. If you want to do the whole conversion to fluorescent you'll also need an Edison E26 socket and mounting screws as shown in the Cool Lights: DIY Fluorescent Video Lighting Volume One video.
See the first edition of the Cool Lights Video Magazine which talks about the process of adding barndoors to a halogen worklight. You can learn to use this kit or even make it all yourself from your own parts!
